School of Education Dean Announcement
To the Howard University Community:
It is my pleasure to announce that Dr. Dawn Williams has been named Dean of the School of Education at Howard University, effective March 1, 2018. Dr. Williams has served as the Interim Dean of the School of Education, Howard University since June 2016 and will continue to report to Dr. Anthony Wutoh, Howard University Provost and Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Williams will provide academic and administrative leadership, vision, and oversight for undergraduate and graduate programs in the School of Education.
Dr. William earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Educational Policy Studies from the University of Illinois.
Dr. Williams joined the faculty of the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, School of Education, Howard University as an Assistant Professor (probationary) in 2003, was promoted to Associate Professor with indefinite tenure in 2008, and has served since then in her present rank. She served as Program Coordinator, Educational Administration and Policy from 2004 to 2010 and as Chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from 2010 to 2016.
Dr. Williams’ research highlights the impact of K-12 macro educational policies targeted for urban school reform. She has published largely in the field of the emergent interdisciplinary field of engineering education. Over the past decade, she has been a recipient of several federal grants totaling approximately $3.3 million. Her research in the STEM and Educational Policy arena are focused on issues of access and diversity while promoting a conscious social justice agenda. During the 2016-2017 academic year, she led the School of Education to successfully complete a rigorous self-study re-accreditation process through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation. The program was accredited and received national recognition from the Education Leadership Constituency Council.
We are fortunate to have Dr. Williams continue her visionary leadership to the School of Education at Howard University.
