Howard University was adversely impacted by extreme weather experienced across the District early this winter.  The resulting widespread damage was felt across campus, including significant damage to many academic buildings and facilities. Remediation and restoration of those buildings is a top priority.  While this process is underway, the University remains committed to minimizing the effect to faculty, staff, students, and the broader HU community.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the postponement of classes impact the academic calendar?

The original schedule was designed with contingencies for snow days secondary to inclement weather. The revised schedule that is being implemented utilizes those contingency days. Therefore, we will still provide the full amount of instructional time necessary for academic programs, without having to cancel or disrupt spring break, or change the date of commencement.

Does the revised academic calendar impact spring break or commencement?

No. The revised academic calendar ensures the full, necessary amount of instructional time needed for all classes without disrupting spring break or changing the date of commencement.

Will students have more time to register for classes?

Yes. The registration period for all students (undergraduate, graduate, and professional students) has been extended to January 26, 2018.
