The Afro-American Studies Department is hosting the 90th Birthday Celebration Symposium for Dr. Andrew Billingsley, April 20-22, at Howard University.
Dr. Billingsley was the vice president of academic affairs at Howard University from 1970-1974, and author of the seminal work, "Black Families in White America" (1968). His achievements while at Howard laid the groundwork for Howard University being the top producer of doctoral degrees for individuals of African descent in the nation and the world today.

With the support of the Afro-American Studies Department, Moorland-Spingarn Research Center and the John and Eula Mae Cleveland Distinguished Chair in Afro-American Studies at Howard, Dr. Billingsley has been working on his memoirs for the last three years.
