Marwa Mohamed is a senior nursing student at Edna Adan University Hospital. She has been actively involved in community service for the past three years, and has dedicated much of her time to youth development, with an emphasis on health and education. She currently volunteers with Somaliland Family Health Association (SOFHA), a national NGO that focuses on providing antenatal care, postnatal care, training, health-care promotion, vaccinations, counseling, and family planning. In May 2015 Marwa was awarded a grant for her vaccination education proposal, which aimed to improve health care and decrease mortality and morbidity rates of the mothers and children in her community. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Marwa will apply the knowledge and skills gained into further strengthening her service commitments to her local community, with the hope that it will inspire the Somali youth to become actively involved in community service.
