Dear Howard University Community,

At approximately 11:52 this afternoon, Howard University received a call from students in the Ralph Bunche Center reporting a shooting at the College of Medicine. Officers at the College of Medicine responded immediately and did not hear or see anything suspicious. During the time of the search, the Metropolitan Police Department received anonymous calls of a potential armed gunman on campus.

In accordance with safety protocols, authorities safely evacuated and cleared several buildings including the Administration Building, the Mudd Building, College of Medicine, and the Annex building which houses the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences. Canine units were deployed to sweep the buildings. The University Community was asked to stay in place and shelter in place.

After a thorough sweep and investigation, it was concluded that there was no evidence of an armed gunman on campus.  An all-clear was issued at approximately 2 p.m.

Our number one priority is the safety of every member of the Howard community.

Please note, all classes are suspended for the remainder of today.

Excellence in Truth and Service,
