Towers West - Activated Sprinkler System Update

At approximately 3:58 a.m., D.C. Fire officials were notified of an activated sprinkler system in Howard Plaza Towers West. Preliminary details from the active investigation reveal that a small fire was caused by an unauthorized cooking device turned on by residents while they were doing hair.

The incident caused damage to approximately 15 rooms on the 7th floor and below. No injuries were reported and building infrastructure is still being assessed. 

Operations Update - Feb. 4 Mental Health Day

In keeping with Howard University's commitment to the wellness of students and employees, the institution will observe a mental health respite on Friday, February 4, 2022. All classes will be suspended for the day, but select, campus-based, auxiliary services will remain open and available on regular weekday scheduling. From a Human Resources perspective, the University is giving employees a day of administrative leave with pay.

2022 Shuttle Service Updates

We are writing to provide several scheduling updates for The Herd shuttle service, set to resume on January 15, 2022.  Please see below for schedule adjustments: 

• Mazza GranMarc Route: 
  It will now run every 30 minutes from 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, from Mazza GrandMarc to Howard University.  After 6:00 p.m., the shuttle will run hourly, Monday-Friday. 

Laundry Points Update

Please be advised that the University laundry machines will accept Laundry Points and Bison Bucks for each machine activation.
 
Laundry Points will be added to each resident’s Bison One Card to allow residents to conveniently access laundry facilities. Points will be sufficient for two large loads each week throughout the semester.
