Dear Howard University Community,
Much has changed since 1796 when America celebrated its first Presidents’ Day. Our greatest chief executives have worked to manifest the spirit of E Pluribus Unum: out of many, one. I am inspired that Howard University continues to produce diverse leaders grounded in their history and unified in their commitment to move our nation closer to the true intersection of truth and service

Charter Day is a time of celebration! This year is Howard's 151st anniversary of its founding in 1867.
We celebrate because we are grateful for the March 2, 1867, approval of the University Charter by President Andrew Johnson for an institution dedicated to the betterment of humanity. We are thankful for Howard Bison - who, through individual example and support of their alma mater, exhibit the very spirit that has marked Howard as one of the great romances in American education.

The Federal Pell Grant is a grant that does not have to be repaid, except under certain circumstances. It is available almost exclusively to undergraduate students obtaining their first bachelor’s degree. All eligible students will receive the amount they qualify for based on the student’s calculated Expected Family Contribution.
