Casandra Hamel has over five years’ experience in educating the youth of South Africa. She volunteers to teach spring and winter school during the holidays to underprivileged and previously disadvantaged learners hoping to complete their grade 12 year. Casandra placed second in the National Teaching Awards for her innovative use of technology to enhance learning in the classroom and also volunteers with extra-mural activities at sister schools, where needed. She is on the grade 12 exam marking panel and also assists with Amanuensis, where she helps learners write exams. Casandra holds an honor's degree in Linguistics and was honored with an award from the Golden Key International Society for academic excellence. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Casandra plans to establish a remedial center in her community to ensure that no child is left behind academically and all receive quality education.
