Small Electrical Fire - College Hall South

At approximately 4:30 a.m., D.C. Fire officials were notified of a fire alarm in College Hall South. An investigation reveals that a resident using a labeled out-of-order dryer caused a small electrical fire in a laundry room and a resulting evacuation of residents.

D.C. Fire issued an all-clear order at approximately 5:03 a.m. and all residents returned safely to the building. There were no injuries as a result of the incident, no activation of sprinkler units in other residential rooms, and damage is still being assessed. We are grateful for the work of first responders in DPS and D.C. Fire and EMS crews who quickly surveyed these buildings to confirm the safe return of residents.

The safety and well-being of Howard community members are always at the forefront of the University’s planning and decision-making. All students are reminded of the University's Code of Student Conduct and Residential Hall agreement, which require compliance with all messaging regarding equipment status and safety guidelines.
